About Signed Aging

Signed Aging exists to support aging with dignity, access, and wellbeing through ASL-first education.

Aging is not only a biological process. It is shaped by language access, systems of care, community connection, and whether people are supported or burdened by the environments around them. For Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard-of-Hearing adults, aging often happens inside systems that were not designed with their needs in mind.

Signed Aging was created to change that.

Our Approach

Signed Aging provides accessible healthspan education in American Sign Language, centering Deaf lived experience and visual learning. Our work focuses on aging, wellbeing, and longevity. Not as clinical treatment, but as education that supports understanding, planning, and connection over time.

All offerings are:

  • ASL-first, not ASL-added

  • Educational, not clinical or therapeutic

  • Designed with accessibility, pacing, and clarity in mind

  • Grounded in dignity, autonomy, and community

We believe people age best when they are informed, supported, and not forced to navigate systems alone.

What We Do

Signed Aging offers:

  • Live ASL Zoom workshops

  • Multi-session workshop series and cohorts

  • Organizational training and capacity building

  • Educational resources that support aging and wellbeing

Our work serves individuals, community groups, and organizations seeking to better understand Deaf-centered aging, healthspan, and access.

Why Capacity Building Matters

Aging well is not only about individual choices—it depends on whether the systems people rely on are prepared to support them over time. When organizations understand Deaf-centered aging and accessibility, people experience less stress, safer care transitions, and greater continuity as they age.

Signed Aging’s capacity building work strengthens those systems so aging with dignity is supported not just by individuals, but by the environments around them.

Our Values

  • Access as a foundation, not an accommodation

  • Education without medicalization

  • Respect for autonomy and lived experience

  • Community over isolation

  • Sustainability for both participants and facilitators

We prioritize thoughtful pacing, clear boundaries, and ethical practices in all of our work.

A Note on Scope

Signed Aging provides education, not medical care, therapy, counseling, or crisis intervention. Our offerings are designed to inform, support reflection, and build understanding—not to diagnose or treat.

Looking Ahead

Signed Aging continues to grow thoughtfully, guided by live community work and real needs. Future offerings may include on-demand courses and educational resources developed from our workshops and cohorts.
